The Spring Garden, Suria KLCC

Who doesn’t fancy dim sum? It is one of my favourite Chinese food to have at any time of the day. The Spring Garden is part of Tai Thong Group. They have a few restaurants which are serves pork-free dishes which is ideal for me. This is not my first visit here as I have been here on numerous occasions.

IMG_7050

On this visit, I have ordered numerous dim sum items. To be honest, I can’t recall the names for each respective items. But it’s safe to say that I have tried nearly 90% of the dim sum menu.

IMG_7051

So what do I think? Well I like the food here as it is not too oily. The ingredients are super fresh, especially when it comes to seafood such as prawns. The portion is decent and for some can be pretty big for some dishes but in all its satisfying.

IMG_7052

The wait time for your food can be a little bit long when it is crowded or during weekend. But so far i have never had any problem as we normally place our dim sum orders in batches, so there’s always food on our table.

IMG_7053

The price is a little bit higher than your typical dim sum restaurant. No issues for me since this is a Chinese restaurant in located KLCC, what do you expect? Will be returning soon! Yummm 🙂

Review of Restoran Nasi Kandar Pokok Cheri, Cheras

Restoran Nasi Kandar Pokok Cheri faces the entrance of Aeon Bandar Mahkota Cheras. Hence, it is prominent and easy to find.  It is a popular place judging from the number of people frequenting this place during lunch hour.

01

There is an interesting spread of dishes. They have a few types of vegetables, a few types of chicken dishes including fried chicken, fish, fried fish, mutton, seafood and a variety of curries. A number of dishes such as nasi goreng, mee goreng are on their ala carte menu. Since I was craving for nasi kandar, I took a plate of rice, ayam masak merah, stir fried long beans and egg omelette. The trade secret in having a good nasi kandar is in the curry. Over here, they probably added about five to six types of curry and gravy on the rice. It tasted very good. There was a hint of spiciness from the chicken and fish curry. You could also taste the kicap and masak merah gravy which gave a nice fusion of flavours. The gravy covered nearly all portion of the rice hence you have a whole plate to look forward too. The ayam masak merah that I had was tender and it was not spicy at all.

My friend had rice with mutton kicap, fried chicken and cabbage. The fried chicken was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, indicating a sign of well fried chicken. Over here they prepacked papadams in packets to ensure its crunchiness. We had one packet.  I think they charged RM1.00 a packet containing three to four pieces of papadam.

Nothing beats cold drinks when you are having nasi kandar. We had teh O limau ais and Coke.

I ordered takeaway for a family member and apparently she liked the food too. She mentioned that she liked the mix of curry and gravy and how it enhanced the taste of the rice and the side dishes. Nasi Kandar Pokok Cheri serves good nasi kandar. They definitely have a wide variety of dishes and good curry. I will definitely come back to try other dishes.

Review of William’s Corner at Taman Mayang PJ

It’s been many years since I have been here. To be honest, I don’t really recall the exact location of this place until a friend mentioned about this place recently. So I decided to check out what is the hype all about.

The location is pretty easy to find. This place is located at the back of Lincoln College in Taman Mayang. There is no clear signage of this place but you can spot a restaurant with lots of tables arranged on the corridor. Apparently it can get really busy here however as usual I got here pretty early for dinner on a weekday so it was not crowded at all.

There is no menu handed out at this place. You can check out the menu which is written on the green board in the restaurant. This is not a ‘mamak’ restaurant. The owner is a Chinese who servers halal / pork free food. This place has been around for many years now. As recommend by my friends we ordered soda herbs, seafood fried rice with soft shell crab, cheese naan with dips and friend noodle with garlic butter grilled chicken.

01

Soda Herbs

The soda herb is served in a big mug, perhaps a full pint size. I would say you can share with this drink with 2 or 3 person. So what drink is this? Its ice cream soda drink, fresh local herbs, asam boi and lychee.

02

Seafood fried rice with soft shell crab

The seafood fried rice with soft shell crab is nice. The fried rice is fried with seafood and seasoned with kicap (soy sauce). The soft shell crab is deep fried so it’s crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.

03

Cheese Naan with dips

The cheese naan bread is served with variety of dips such as butter, caramel, coffee and chocolate sauce. This dips goes really well with the cheese naan. I quite like this.

04

Noodle with garlic butter grilled chicken

The noodle with garlic butter grilled chicken was alright. The fried noddle tasted plain (with soy sauce) and lots of pepper. I didn’t really enjoy this.

The portion of the food and drinks is large or some might say x-large portion. I would strongly advise you to check with staff so that you don’t over order. This is a normal restaurant with no air conditioning and with mostly outdoor seating.

Jamaica Blue Coffee at Midvalley Mall Kuala Lumpur

I was craving for coffee and I wanted to try something new. Since Midvalley has numerous coffee places and I bumped into Jamaica Blue which is located at South wing of the mall. This outlet has been here since 2014 however this will be my first visit here.

IMG_4597

It’s an open kiosk concept café located on the 1st floor, near to Metrojaya. The location is pretty easy to spot on. The concept of the outlet seems minimal yet cosy. I approached the staff to place an order. If you can see on the menu, there are two blends available. Normal blend and another one is Wallenford which is their signature blend which carries premium pricing.

I ordered a large flat white (RM18), chilled long black (RM12) and crunchy Nutella cake (RM16.50), I mean who doesn’t like Nutella! So, once you place the orders, the drinks will be sent to your table.

IMG_4591

IMG_4593

IMG_4589

We only waited for a few minutes to get all our orders. The flat white was hot when it was served. The coffee was good but I find it a bit too milky, maybe it’s just me. The chilled long black was not impressive as it felt diluted. The cake was not interesting as I hoped it would be. To be very honest, I didn’t taste the nutella flavour and no crunchiness found anywhere.

So, how was the experience? The service was okay. The staff did no promoting their signature blend at all or mini-education / promoting their signature coffee bean from Jamaica. They definitely need to think of something to stand out from the many other coffee outlets. The coffee itself was okay.

Saya suka Satay!…

IMG_3167

Chicken satay

IMG_3168

Mutton satay

Saya suka satay! That means, I love satay!

What is Satay? It is actually small pieces of meat on bamboo skewers and grilled. Normally the meat would be seasoned and marinated at least for few hours (or overnight for better taste) before being skewed and grilled. Satay is normally served with nasi himpit, peanut sauce (sweet & spicy) and cucumber. It is a common dish in Malaysia and well like by all.

Satay is very famous in Kajang , a small town in south of Kuala Lumpur. Depending of traffic, it can take about 40 minutes or more to reach here from Kuala Lumpur. You can find variety of satays such as chicken, mutton or beef easily. There are some places that serve fish, pork, deer, chicken liver / gizzard, rabbit, etc.

IMG_3169

Peanut sauce.. Yumm. I love this!

IMG_3170

Grind chili sauce! Very spicy!

Since I am staying in south of KL, it is very easy for me to go to Kajang. One of my favorite satay place is Haji Samsuri.

I normally visit their outlet at Bangunan Dato Nazir for many years now.

Why do I like the satays here? Well, you can variety of satays here. The peanut sauce is very good. If you like your sauce to be extra spicy, then just add the grind chili sauce for additional ‘zing’.  I normally like the sauce to be extra spicy.  The quality of satays here is good. I remember many years ago, they used to be a much ‘smaller’ restaurant and waiting for them to prepare the satays will take a while. Nowadays they have a very big kitchen and waiting time for the satay is not that long anymore which is a good thing. So, if you are here in Malaysia, do try out Satay!

If you have tried Satay, let me know whether you liked it?

Review of Nong & Jimmy Seafood. Finger licking seafood!

I have been coming here for years now (since late 90s) and I do come over every now and then, always finding a reason for come here! LOL

The crowd can be overwhelming during weekend so if possible do come early, ideally by 7 pm. If you late, you will notice there will be a long queue and people will stand close to your table waiting for you to finish you meals which can be a bit uncomfortable at times. One more thing, dont expect a fancy restaurant. Its a typical road side seafood restaurant.

Parking is ample here.

IMG_2869

Nong & Jimmy Seafood. These sauces are damn good!

So what do you expect from there, after all its a seafood restaurant. Well, you are wrong! The seafood here is do damn good!

Black Pepper crab

On this visit, we ordered Thai steamed fish, grilled cockles, black pepper crab, grilled squid, butter prawns, seafood fried rice and stir-fried kailan. Everything was good! Yummm! I do have to say that the seafood served here are fresh. Everything is cooked upon order so the dishes are hot when its served.

Stir fried kailan

Like I said, everything is good here. The squid is good too although some people may not like the ‘rubbery’ feel of the squid as it is grilled. The black pepper crab is one of the best out there. We were happy with the taste of the food and portion of the food. Also, the food here is fresh and reasonable price! All these food for the 3 of us! Burrp!

We been coming here for years now and definitely will be returning again soon! I do note that the service can be poor during the busy days. I hope they could do something about it!

Caffe Bene @ Sunway Pyramid

I was out with few friends for dinner in Sunway Pyramid mall. After our dinner, they were very excited to go to the new Korean coffee place for some drinks and dessert. I am not a big fan of anything Korean, anyway I thought, let give it a try!

IMG_3259

We ordered few coffee drinks and some desserts. We had to wait for a while for our drinks and desserts to be ready. Apparently, they prepared a few of our orders but were waiting for the whole order to be ready before alerting us its ready. But wouldn’t the hot coffee be cold by then? I would defeat the purpose of me ordering it hot!

IMG_3254

IMG_3257

Anyway, what do I think of it? The coffee was so so. The iced latte was nothing fantastic, tasted diluted. The flat white was okay. The dessert was nice but nothing out of this world. We had a chocolate tart and hazelnut waffle. The price seems a bit steep for such place. Limited seating in this outlet so better check out whether there is vacant table before placing order.
