What do you know; I and a bunch of friends were casually talking about going for a short break. One of the condition of the trip, it should be overseas, must be island or beach trip as it will be more relaxing. So going through our options available, we decided to head to Phuket for a 3days 2 nights trip! So the next step will be finding a suitable accommodation which will fit the budget, ideal location and convenience. So guess who had to do all this ‘research’? Off course it was me! Haha It’s probably a good thing since I love doing it.
After going through a number of hotels through my favourite trip planner site aka TripAdvisor, I manage to shortlist a few hotels which fits the bill. We went through some of the reviews through TA and other sites; blogs, we booked this hotel through AirAsiaGo who are partnering with Expedia. We managed to get a pretty good deal for the flight and accommodation at Rico’s Hotel.
Initially we were a bit sceptical about the hotel as it was offered at quite low rate considering its location which is right on the Bangla road. Anyway, we arrived at the hotel in early morning. We approached the front desk and they assisted us with keeping our luggage till the check in time which was at 2pm. So we went around on foot to discover the area near the hotel and off course have some food.
We got back after a while and our room were ready. The room was clean, well ventilated, good condition, pretty decent size although some part of the room looks a bit tired. We have requested for additional bed in one of the rooms which has been arranged accordingly without any additional charges which was nice. There is a TV in the room with 85 channels catering to anyone from all parts of the world! I find it pretty cool! There is a mini fridge, few bottles of complimentary mineral water, towels, toiletries and wardrobe to keep your clothes. Although the hotel is about 5 storeys high, there is a lift in this hotel. Some of the ‘small hotels’ do not have lift facility. The toilet is on average size but it was clean. The hotel provides free Wi-Fi throughout the whole hotel which was awesome! We had a problem with the air conditioner however the staff attended to it promptly. They are friendly, helpful and were courteous throughout our stay there.
The location of the hotel is fantastic as it is right off the Bangla road. You will need to walk about 1 minute to reach Bangla road. Although it is close to the nightlife, it is not noisy at night. This hotel is suitable for any age group. You can reach to Patong beach or Jung Ceylon shopping mall in few minutes’ walk. There a lots of restaurants nearby to cater to your taste bud, depending whether its local or international cuisine. Overall we are very happy with the hotel! Good job Rico’s Hotel! Looking forward to back here soon!
